Well done Friday night at the Dromana 5 mile with Frank Quinlan 3rd in 26min 50 sec and Finley Weir 10th and Dave Drohan 11th. Other members were Con Kelleher, Pat O'Keefe, Derek Grant and Claire Grant.

Masters do it again at T&F Championships

With an impressive medal haul of 35 medals WAC defended their club of the year title in great style and in beautiful summer weather at Templemore.
A summary of the medals won and the team members are shown below.
The senior championships were held at the same venue and the club was represented by Siobhain Heylin, Alan Bloomer and Pat Breen. Siobhain won bronze in the ladies 1500m.
Brendan Leahy set a new Irish O35 record for the 200m and has his eyes firmly on the records in the 100m and 400m for August!!
8 weeks to the National Masters in Tullamore and we hope to have a big team out again for that.

Sessions for Munster T&F championships


Just a reminder to the Masters and Seniors who want to compete on June 17th at the Munster T&F championships in Templemore: entries to club secretary Diane on 0876324421 please by next Thursday. (Four events max per person). 
We are aiming to retain our Best Munster Masters Club award that we won last year. 

Great training session earlier today and thanks to David Murphy and Kieran Leahy for taking us through our paces. More sessions aimed specifically at the Munsters on the 17th at the RSC will be on the following days:
  • Thursday next June 7th at 7pm, 
  • Saturday 9th at 11:30am and 
  • Thursday at 7pm, all at the RSC .

Munster Track & Field Championships June 17th


In preparation for the upcoming Munster Track & Field Championships on June 17th in Templemore we are holding Saturday sessions at 11:30am at the RSC this coming Saturday June 2nd and the following Saturday 9th aiming especially at Masters members.  We hope to defend the best club title we won last year. All of you who competed last year should have been contacted by now but if anyone slipped through the net please contact Deirdre on 0879983782 or just turn up on Saturday at 11:30, Monday at 7:30pm or Thursdayat 5:45 for Kieran's group. Pictures of some of those involved last year are shown below.

Busy weekend with County Championshipships and planning ahead for Munster T&F

Brendan Leahy continued his recent good form at Masters level at the Counties today with an impressive 23.5 sec win in the 200m. Pascal Halley was 2nd and won medals in Shot and Triple Jump also. Pat Breen was 2nd in the senior 800m with a good early season time of 2 10.  Claire Grant won the senior ladies 800m and 3k, Niamh Tebay won the Junior girls 800m, Nathan O'Callaghan won the 800m and 3K U18, Alan Slattery won the Junior 3K and Richard Lucas won the Junior 800m.

A huge show of Juveniles again this week and great success across all events and great to see so many relay teams perform also. Thanks to all the coaches and parents who helped make Waterford AC the most visible club over the two days of the counties.

Good running  yet again for Con Kelleher at the Youghal 10K and a new PB for Patt O'Keeffe. A lovely day there and great turnout of 500 runners. Full results HERE

Walk for life coming up this week

The walk for life is tomorrow (Friday 18th May) all day at the RSC in aid of the Hospice who do such valuable work. come along any time but if you are free at 6 pm throw on your WAC hoodies and come down and do a few laps with the rest of the WAC gang. Everyone welcome.


Day 2 of the County T&F championships is this coming Sunday from 11am. please note a change in the program shown here is that the 5K has been reduced to a 3k for both men and women, junior and senior.


Also, the stoneyford 10k is on Sunday with a 12:30pm start.

Weekend round up

Another busy weekend of athletics with the Tom Jordan 5 mile on Friday night in Portlaw and the County T&F championships on Sunday and some members at the Clonmel 10k on Sunday also.
Portlaw saw a great win for Silvia Malone and Frank Quinlan got 3rd . Joan Mahony came 5th and Elaine Barry won the ladies O45 Category while Pat O'Keefe won the O55.  Many other fine runs from club members as shown below. Some pictures from Gavin Downey HERE and full results from Portlaw HERE

At the County T&F championships Pat Breen won the senior 400m with Brendan Leahy winning the Masters 100m and 400m.  Week 2 of the counties coming up on Sunday next, May 20th, for both seniors and juveniles. As well as field events there is 200m and 800m for Junior, senior and masters and 5k for Junior and Senior. Full program starts at 11am.
In Clonmel a great run by Con Kelleher with 44mins for the 10K in a popular event in aid of Cystic Fibrosis with 437 runners taking part. Full results from Clonmel HERE

County Championships May 13th & 20th at RSC

The next 2 weekends sees the County Waterford Track & Field Championships at the RSC with 11am start each Sunday.   


Also, on Friday 11th the Tom Jordan memorial 5 mile is on in Portlaw with a 7:30pm start.

and the following weekend on Sunday May 20th the annual Stoneyford 10k is on.

Limerick & Belfast Marathons

Great running for club members Michael and Helena Coleman who both ran PB times at the great Limerick run on Sunday. Michael ran 3 23 for the marathon and Helena 1 55 for the half. (Both are regulars at the WAC circuits on a Wednesday night at 7pm so the moral of the story is....yet more people doing circuits and pulling in PBs!!) Also, Jason O'Brien ran 1 45 for the half and Pat Grant, fresh from the London Marathon, acted as pace maker for 3 30 today and brought them in nicely with about 30 seconds to spair!

Also, at the Belfast Marathon on bank holiday Monday WAC's Mary Jennings won the F55 category in a time of 3hr 33min

Great Club event yet again

In its 43rd year all agreed it was another celebration of great running with Paddy's wife Mary enjoying a great night and sponsor of the event Derek Tebay with family members.

Another great evening of road running for and by WAC!  55 of our members ran and at least that number again helped out with registration, course set up, the water station, the finish area, the refreshments, the marshalling and all the other little jobs that need to get done.

43rd Annual Waterford to Tramore 7.5 mile road race this coming Saturday

The race starts at the Waterford city hall at 7pm sharp. The race finishes opposite the Majestic Hotel in Tramore (down near Splashworld). Don't forget to organise a lift back to Waterford to collect your car or drop the car out earlier...or check out the bus timetable shown here (bus 360).

Entries will be taken at the Munster Bar, on the Mall (which is near both the Tower Hotel and only minutes from the start) between 5:45 and 6:45.

Great running and fun at Glor na mara 4 mile


Well done all the WAC members who were out in force this evening at the Glornamara 4 mile.

Well done Silvia Malone on winning the ladies section, Joan Mahony coming an excellent 3rd, Diane Behan 4th and Caitriona Gough 5th.
WAC men were well in contention with 7 men in the first 10 finishers! From Frank Quinlan 2nd, Brian Swaby 3rd, Finley Weir 4th and David Drohan 5th WAC members were very evident throughout the field! Many members ran and with great refreshments after at the GAA centre all agreed it was a great evening of athletics. Well done to Andrew Connick of WIT AC who won the race in a very respectable time of 20min 35 sec.

Glor na mara 4 mile

Tonight April 27th: Glornamara 4 mile road race in Tramore. 
Registration is from 5:30 at Oceanics Surf school.

4 mile race for adults starting at 6:30pm; entry is 10 euro.

U16 Kids race along the prom (mens slip to lifeguard hut) starting at 6pm; entry is 5 euro.
